In order to create these cats, the steel drums are burned to remove their coating and then sliced open and flattened. Designs are sketched onto them, before the sculptors cut around the contour of the design with a hammer and chisel, and add depth by embossing areas with the rounded ends of their hammers. The metal sculpture is treated with non-toxic rust preventing primer, and passed on to the painters. Once the painters are proud of and satisfied with their part of the creative process, the cats are varnished and sent on their way.
