You won’t believe the colors of these original paintings from China.  DanDan buys work directly from the artists and from the precise, traditional paper cuts to truly “art deco” style minority girl paintings you will be excited by the beauty of the work presented here.   Many of the artists have had shows in local galleries in China and several belong to peasant art associations. I love the work of these artists. I hope you enjoy them also!

Best of Chums

Best of Chums is the creative inspiration of designer Laura Millman. After designing for nearly twenty years in the woman’s and junior market, Millman launched Best of Chums in October 1997. Her goal was to create a cool and innovative children’s clothing company that would reflect her own love of humor and fun. Best of Chums has become a well know staple in the infant boutique market and what baby shower would be complete without a gift from Best of Chums?

Best of Chums roots it success in two areas: an offbeat sense of style and design, and innovative packaging. Millman’s strength lie in her keen sense of color and ability to hand design many of the appliques that have made Best of Chums famous.

Best Crystals
Best  Crystals is the most extensive site of crystals and minerals in the world. They  stock over 1,000 items at any given time, and the site serves as a resource for information about crystals and stones. “Crystals and minerals start as an event. They happen. They are not static. All the necessary conditions (temperature, pressure, and chemical elements) combine in a particular way at a particular time to facilitate their birth and growth.   The rocks that make up the earth’s crust, that we walk on, that comprise our mountain ranges and canyons – have all undergone and continue to experience great change Rocks have a story to tell. They hold the records of the most ancient histories of our earth.” Best Crystals retails massive geodes and crystals but also some smaller pieces that the One Eyed Turtle carries. If you need some small stones or hearts for an event, please contact me to help in the planning.

China Ethnic Crafts

In their travels to central China, Paul and Dorothy Lacy, owners of CEC,  happened upon some little known minority peoples there, the Miao and the Tujia, who do exquisite handwork in embroidery, weaving, shibori (tie-dye) and batik.

Using a combination of our own designs, traditional Miao patterns and the expert sewing skills of the local women, we have put together five collections whose popularity spans cultures and generations.

This little known minority ethnic group has its own language and customs dating back thousands of years, yet their exquisite embroidery skills are relatively unknown outside their own people. We visit China several times a year to work with them so we can bring this unique line of handmade products to the western world.

The Miao women work in their homes as a cottage industry and have already been fairly compensated for their work.

Crossroads

Crossroads jewelry (and Nepali felt products) joins together stories of friendship, passion for design, and world travel. In 1999 Dmitri Robbins and Marpa Eager founded Crossroads with a commitment to bringing handcrafted jewelry to specialty boutiques. Inspired by the beauty of the glass art friends were creating in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, Dmitri and Marpa traveled the globe, meeting designers and artisans, creating an exciting new jewelry (and felt) collections.
